Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC) envisions Brockton as a City of Refuge, where people “own” their bodies and are the masters of their lives and economic destinies. The Brockton we envision is a refuge of self-sustaining communities, rooted in cooperatives in four vital areas: Healthcare, Food, Housing, and Childcare. In addition, we envision the development of cooperatively-owned and managed businesses, yielding new opportunities for meaningful employment and a greater sense of self-worth for our residents. The cooperative model has long been the standard for creating fair and healthy living environments, successfully integrating work and rest. It is time for the people of Brockton to adopt this economic model, and create a vibrant, thriving City of Refuge for all of us.
